You should know that a taxpayer must have their GSTIN on every invoice they submit. I recently learned from my father how to check the details of the taxpayer, and he mentioned we can do it through the official GST portal by a quick GST no search by TIN no. It seemed a little confusing for me in the beginning, but now I have got a hang of it. Let me give you a detailed guide on the same.

How to Search GST Number by TIN Number?

There is a ‘Search Taxpayer’ option on the official website of GST, where you can view the profile of any registered taxpayer by entering the GSTIN/UIN number. Here are some steps you need to follow to understand how to know GST number by TIN number.

  1. Visit the official

  2. You will find a section called ‘Search Taxpayer’. Click on that, and you’ll be directed to the next page, asking for your GSTIN number. 

  3. Once you enter the number and type the captcha, click on the ‘search’ button. The details of the taxpayer will be displayed.

  4. When you scroll down, you will find an option called ‘show filing table’. This will show you the filed return details.

  5. If you want to check the frequency of your return filing, you can do so by clicking on the ‘show return filing frequency’ button.

So, you can view details like GSTIN/UIN, legal name of business, date of registration, trade name, constitution of business, details of return field, etc. by just visiting the website. If you want to look for details like the name (s) of the proprietor/director (s), e-way bill history, or tax payment, etc, then you need to login to the portal.
