How to Check if PAN is Linked with Aadhar?

The government has mandated that taxpayers should link their Aadhaar with their Permanent Account Number (PAN) cards by 30 June 2023. If taxpayers do not link their Aadhaar with PAN cards, then the PAN cards will become ineffective as of July 1, 2023. If you are wondering how to check if PAN is linked with Aadhar, I’d like to say that there are 3 ways to check if your Aadhaar and PAN card is linked.

How to check whether PAN is linked with Aadhar?

• How to check if Aadhar is linked to PAN without logging into the Income Tax portal:

1. Visit the income tax e-filing website. 

2. Click the "Link Aadhaar Status" link under the "Quick Links" category.

3. Click the "View Link Aadhaar Status" button after entering the "PAN number" and "Aadhaar Number."

4. Upon successful confirmation, a notification indicating your Link Aadhaar status will be shown. When your PAN card is linked to your Aadhaar, the following message will appear: "Your PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar”

5. The notification "Your Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation" will show up on the screen when your Aadhaar-PAN link is active. Please visit the 'Link Aadhaar Status' link on the homepage later to check the status.

6. The notification stating "PAN not linked with Aadhaar" will show up on the screen if your Aadhaar and PAN card is not linked. To link your Aadhaar with your PAN, kindly click the "Link Aadhaar" button. 

• How to check whether Aadhar is linked with PAN card by logging into the Income Tax portal:

1. Visit the income tax e-filing website.

2. Click the "Link Aadhaar Status" link under "Dashboard" on the webpage.

3. Go to "My Profile" and select the "Link Aadhaar Status" option as another option.

The Aadhaar number will appear once it has been linked to your PAN card. 'Link Aadhaar Status' will be shown if your Aadhaar and PAN card are not linked. 

You will need to check the status later if the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has not yet validated your request to link your Aadhaar with your PAN card.

• How to Know if PAN is Linked to Aadhar Status via SMS?

1. Write the SMS UIDPAN 10 digit PAN number> 12 digit Aadhaar number>.

2. Send the SMS to either 56161 or 567678.

3. Wait for the response from the government service.

When the Aadhaar and PAN are linked, the notification “Aadhaar is already associated with PAN (number) in ITD database. Thank you for using our services.” 

The notice that appears when the Aadhaar is not linked to the PAN is as follows:  “Aadhaar is not associated with PAN (number) in ITD database. Thank you for using our services.”
