My father inherited my grandfather’s agricultural land after his death. He wanted to build a house on that land but my uncle told him that agricultural land can’t be used for residential, industrial, or commercial purposes. My uncle told us that we will have to convert it into non-agricultural land first. This process of converting agricultural land into non-agricultural land is known as land conversion. We have recently applied for land conversion and we keep checking the conversion request status, so I can answer your query.
According to the provision of the Telangana Non-Agricultural Lands Assessment Act (NALA), one can convert agricultural land into non-agriculture land only by taking permission from the competent authorities. Let me tell you more about NALA. Introduced in 1963, NALA regulates the process of converting agricultural land to non-agriculture land in Telangana.

The competent authority will visit your land for inspection with prior notice to you.
The competent authority will issue the Land Conversion Certificate if everything goes well.
If you use any agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes without getting the required permission from the concerned authorities, the land will be deemed to have been converted for non-agricultural purposes. Upon such deemed conversion, the officials will charge you a penalty of 50% over and above the conversion fee of that land.
