Everyone who has shared their POVs are absolutely right. I bought a property in Chennai in 2012 and back then patta and chitta were two different documents. But I recently got to know that in 2015 the state government announced that these will be merged and will now be one document. I got confused and wanted to check patta online status. Fortunately R.Soumya’s answer came in handy.

Before going deep into it, I would like to explain what actually happened. For tax saving purposes, I transferred that property in Chennai in my wife’s name and after that we had to get patta chitta transferred too. Our agent helped us apply for it.

So, now I want to see what the patta transfer application status is. I called up my agent but he was unreachable. Thankfully, when I came online, this link caught my attention. I read through it and went to the revenue site of Tamil Nadu.

  • I entered my patta transfer application id

  • And then added the captcha value

  • Upon submission I got to know that review was under process

It’s very convenient these days to track the applications online or else who had the capacity to run around asking every government official that comes our way.

I hope my experience taught you how to keep track of patta online status.

Is it necessary to have Patta register?

Patta is the official document that establishes a person's ownership of land. If Patta is registered in a person's name, it signifies that he or she is the legal owner of the land. To improve the security of the procedure and prevent fraud, the Tamil Nadu government is considering making Patta lawful for land registration. However, in Tamil Nadu, assets or lands can currently be registered by submitting either the Patta document or the land's parent documentation.
