Prior to moving my household goods within Bangalore six months ago, I researched what moving truck size do I need. I found that it's crucial to take into account the quantity of goods you have, particularly big, heavy, and delicate objects, before selecting the moving truck. However, as a basic rule, a moving truck should be roughly three cubic feet of space.

Additionally, I discovered multiple moving truck sizes, which I have included below for your reference.

What Truck Size Do I Need for Moving?

Selecting the appropriate truck and vehicle sizes is crucial for a smooth and successful relocation process. If the truck you choose doesn't have enough area for storage, you'll either have to empty it and get a bigger one, or you'll have to decide what items to leave behind.

Decide the appropriate truck as per your home size from the below table:

Truck Type Length Suitable for Home Size

3 Wheeler

5.5 ft

Studio or Dorm Goods

Tata Ace

7 ft

Studio or 1 RK Goods

Pickup or Dost

8 ft

1 BHK Goods

Truck Canter

14 ft

2 BHK Goods

Truck LPT

17 ft

3 BHK Goods

As I had goods for one BHK, so I opted for Pickup from NoBroker Packers and Movers service. You can also solve your shifting needs at an affordable price just by clicking on the below link:

What is the Cost to Rent Truck?

One of the most important choices in any home shifting and moving process is deciding the appropriate moving truck. There's nothing worse than picking a track that you think will work. Trust me, I have been there. You'll either have to hire another truck, or completely unload the cargo you just packed over the course of the day and order a bigger one. In the first case, you'll be spending more money than you would if you had chosen the right size, and in the second case, you'll be wasting precious time. So, based on  my personal experience I will tell you how to choose truck size and vehicle size for shifting so that you don’t end up making any mistake like I did.

How to choose truck size and vehicle size for shifting?

The size of the moving truck you rent depends on your answers to questions such as:

How big is your house?

The bigger the house, the more things you need to move, so you'll need a bigger truck to move everything. However, avoid booking a vehicle based solely on the size of your home. Also, keep an eye on other factors so you don't end up with a small truck that can't hold your stuff or a big car that you're paying for unused space.

Consider the following points:

  • The size and type of furniture that needs to be moved.

  • Number of devices, shelves and cabinets.

  • A number of delicate items and antiques.

  • Total amount of items moved.

  • The number of boxes that are required to be moved.

What is the travel distance?

The distance you need to shift is another important factor to consider. For example, if you're moving house and can't fit all your belongings in your truck at once, you have the option to easily move from your old house to your new one multiple times. However, the same scenario for domestic movement is virtually impossible. Because you have to unload the whole truck and rebook a bigger truck, which ends up costing you more time and money.

To ensure a hassle-free move, you should reserve a truck large enough to comfortably hold all your goods at once.

This is how to choose truck size and vehicle size for shifting.
