How to Choose Wallpaper?

I went through a lot of struggle initially to choose the right wallpaper for our room. Later, I consulted with an interior designer friend to seek suggestions on how to choose wallpaper and was able to select. You will need to consider a few things, like the purpose of the room, the room’s layout, what the existing decor is, and others.

Here are some tips that I got from my friend on how to pick wallpaper:

Consider the Room’s Purpose

The wallpaper should complement the function of the room. For example, in living rooms, go for elegant or cosy-looking wallpapers that will help you set a relaxing tone. For bedrooms, you can go with soothing designs and vibrant, playful patterns for children's rooms. For kitchens or bathrooms, use moisture-resistant wallpapers.

Focus on Room Size and Layout

For large rooms, go for bold patterns, and for smaller spaces, go with intricately designed wallpaper. Vertical stripes will help you make the room appear taller, while horizontal stripes can make a narrow space look wide. I will suggest you use light-coloured wallpaper in small rooms to create an illusion of space and darker hues in larger rooms for a cosy feel.

Match Wallpaper with Existing Decor

When choosing wallpaper, think about how it will fit with your furniture, curtains, and flooring. If you’re aiming for a look that flows with everything, neutral designs are a safe bet, as they tend to complement most decor. On the other hand, if you're feeling adventurous, a bold, patterned wallpaper can add character to a feature wall. Just be sure the colours and patterns work together with what you already have, creating a space that feels cohesive and inviting.
