I was planning to get a chandelier for my house but I was quite worried about the cleaning process. I visited a friend of mine and noticed that he too had a chandelier. I asked him, how do you clean a chandelier. He told me that he removes all the glass pieces before cleaning the chandelier. Following that, he told me about the steps.

How to Clean the Chandelier?

Here are the steps mentioned by him.

  • He told me that he starts the process by turning off the electricity and placing a blanket below the chandelier.

  • Next, he removes all the glass pieces from the chandelier with needle-nose pliers. Then he uses a microfiber cloth to wipe and clean the dirt off the fixtures and bulbs.

  • After that, he prepares a cleaning solution by mixing water and a mild cleaner.

  • Following that, he dampens a microfiber cloth with the solution and wipes each glass piece to clean them.

  • Next, he dries them using a thick towel before reattaching them.

And that is all he told me. Now, I have bought a chandelier and plan to clean it in the process mentioned by my friend. I hope these steps are helpful to you.

You shouldn't use liquid cleansers or abrasives on chandeliers because the majority of their coatings are adequately lacquered and supported. These substances have the potential to damage the finish by discolouring, peeling, or breaking it. You can consult your product handbook or the manufacturer's website for cleaning guidelines if you have questions about how to care for a chandelier in your house.

How to clean a chandelier without taking it down?

We have excellent news if you've been concerned that taking down and disassembling your chandelier, which hangs from a high ceiling, is the only method to clean it.

Usually, you may clean your chandelier while it's still hanging and undamaged for routine maintenance.

Here are six fundamental guidelines for maintaining a hanging chandelier:

  1. Before operating, always switch off the chandelier's electricity.

  2. Alternate lighting should be set up so you can see while cleaning.

  3. To avoid fingerprints, put on some cleaning gloves.

  4. To prevent a mess, place a drop cloth or towel under the fixture.

  5. With either of the aforementioned cleaning solutions, only utilise soft microfiber cleaning cloths.

  6. While cleaning, avoid rotating the chandelier as this could loosen the supports.

Chandelier cleaning hacks

A chandelier may need to be disassembled every year for comprehensive cleaning.

Here's how to properly remove an old, tarnished, or extremely filthy chandelier so that you can clean it more thoroughly:

  1. Cut the power, just as you would when cleaning a hanging chandelier, and set a drop cloth on the floor to catch drips and debris.

  2. If your chandelier has a distinctive hanging pattern, take pictures of it. You may even do a sketch of it or make notes about how it was put together.

  3. Using needle nose pliers or the proper instrument, remove the chandelier's little pieces one at a time.

  4. To minimise misunderstanding, wipe each piece with a moist cloth and then rehang it before taking out the next one.

  5. If the hanging pattern on your chandelier is extremely complicated or the fixture is out of your reach, get a professional cleaning to avoid any potential harm or damage.

Now you know the ways of cleaning of chandelier like a pro.
