How to Clean a Mattress?

While changing the sheet a few days back, I noticed that the mattress had become quite dirty and I decided to clean it. Since I wasn’t aware of the cleaning process, I did research online and learned about a few steps. I have added those steps about how can you clean a mattress below.

Here are the steps that I followed to clean the mattress.

• I first gathered all the cleaning supplies, such as baking soda, vinegar solution, vacuum cleaner, and clean cloth. 

• Next, I removed all the bedding and sheets from over the mattress. 

• I sprinkled a generous amount of baking soda over the mattress and let it sat for around 30 minutes. 

• After that time, I used a vacuum cleaner to remove all the baking soda from the mattress. 

• Now, I sprayed the vinegar solution all over the mattress and pat dried it using the dry cloth. 

• Following that, let it air dry for some time. You can also use a fan for that. 

• Finally, I vacuumed the mattress again and covered it using a mattress protector.

2. Next, take a pack of baking soda and sprinkle it over the mattress to deodorise it. You should use 3 boxes of baking soda for the best results. To elevate the fragrance, you can add essential oil to the baking soda. 

3. Now, let's cater to the stains. In a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide, add 3 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of clear dish soap. Close the bottle and shake it well. 

4. Spray the created solution over the stain and use a brush to scrub over the stain. Then, gently pat over the stained area. 

5. In this step, open the windows to air out the mattress.

6. It is time to flip the mattress and rotate it. Add the bed coverings and the sheets over the mattress.

• A gentle, unscented, and bleach-free laundry detergent

• An enzyme cleaner or dish soap

• Baking soda

• Towels or rags for cleaning

Look for areas of discoloration and stains. Spot-clean these areas carefully using this method:

• Apply the cleaning solution to a clean cloth

• Blot the stained part with the cloth gently

• Apply cold water to another clean cloth

• Blot the stained part with the water-soaked cloth

• Repeat the process, if necessary.

After removing any visible stains and letting the mattress cover dry completely, apply a thin layer of baking soda over the mattress’s entire surface. Baking soda will help in absorbing moisture and neutralizing odor. After that, leave the baking soda on the mattress for some hours.

Flip the mattress over, and clean the underside of your mattress using the same process.
