Hi Tina, I can tell you the process to clean air conditioning drain line at home on your own. I did the same after my AC started to malfunction a while back. For this, I typically use liquid bleach, but you can use distilled white vinegar, hot water or hydrogen peroxide.

What is the Method of Cleaning Air Conditioning Drain Line?

  1. To begin with, switch off the power supply to your AC to prevent any accidents. Move on to find the drain line of your AC.

  2. Search for the outdoor and indoor units of the drain line. The outdoor one is a ¾ inches PVC pipe, which has an open end that lets the water out. You’ll find it around the AC’s outdoor condenser unit.

  3. The indoor unit is connected to the drain pan on the bottom side of the indoor evaporator coil unit.

  4. Now, you need to get inside the line by finding the access point of the indoor line. You’ll see a T-shaped cap on the drain line. Pull it out and check inside.

  5. If you find blockage, remove it with your hands after wearing protective gloves. Then, pour 1 cup of vinegar, liquid bleach, hydrogen peroxide or hot water into the line. Don’t mix bleach and vinegar, as their mixture produces a harmful gas.

  6. Let the solution work for around 30 minutes or till the debris clears. Flush out the line using water and see that the line is draining now.

This is the process for cleaning an AC drain line on your own. I hope this gives you good results.
