Cleaning chimneys can be quite a task because of all the built-up dirt and gunk that chimneys suck up all the time while we cook. I saw a few days ago that my chimney had gotten so greasy, that I just had to clean it. So, I started looking for ways on how to clean chimney oil at home. I will tell you 4 ways I found to make the chimney non greasy again, and that too only using basic home ingredients.
How to Clean Oil from Chimney?
I came across the following hacks to clean the chimney oil easily:
Using Vinegar and Water
You mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the greasy areas of the chimney and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. The acidity of the vinegar is supposed to help break down the grease. Then wipe it properly with a clean and dry cloth for a nice finish.
Using Baking Soda Paste
Create a fine paste using baking soda and water.
Apply this paste to the greasy surfaces and allow it to sit for 15-20 minutes.
Scrub nicely with a firm hand with a clean sponge or cloth, then rinse gently with warm water. We used baking soda as it naturally helps in lifting stubborn grease.
Using Dish Soap and Hot Water
Put some hot water into a bucket and then mix in a few drops of dish soap. Then scrub the chimney with a firm hand with a sponge or a cloth that has been soaked in the warm soap water. This is a nice method but only works with regular maintenance when there isn’t a lot of buildup. If there is significant buildup, you should use other methods.
Store Sold Cleaners
Lastly, if there is a lot of buildup and is very stubborn (so much that no other method works), you will have to use a chemical based cleaner specifically made for cleaning hard to clean greasy surfaces. Follow the instructions carefully and properly for best results.
However, I would suggest you hire a professional cleaner. I hope you get an idea of how to clean chimney oil at home.

I put in a chimney in my modular kitchen last month. Due to my wife's extensive use of it for various purposes, oil stains have gathered at the chimney. When I researched how to clean chimney oil at home, I found that baking soda is a natural and effective cleaner to eliminate oil stains. I have shared the detailed steps I followed to get my chimney back to its original, flawless condition.
How to Remove Oil Stain From Chimney?
Although removing chimney oil stains at home can be difficult, it can be made much simpler with baking soda or Sodium Bicarbonate. I found the following procedure online on how to clean chimney oil stains:
Initially in a small bowl, put two teaspoons of baking soda.
Now, slowly add water to the bowl and mix until it becomes a thick paste. The amount of baking soda and water required typically varies with the stain's size.
Next, apply the baking soda paste directly to the chimney's oil-stained sections. To guarantee that the stain is completely covered, use a brush and distribute the paste evenly.
Give the baking soda paste to settle on the oil stain for around five minutes.
Now, clean the grease off with a scrub brush. Slowly begin scrubbing in a gentle circular motion.
Finally, use a wet towel and give the chimney a thorough cleaning.
I recovered my chimney to its original glory by making a paste of baking soda, putting it on the spots, and then cleaning away the released oil. You can also get your chimney cleaned by hiring a professional from the below link:
