We have Terrazzo flooring in our house, which is also known as chips floor. The floor of the balcony section had become quite dirty and I planned to get it cleaned. I was about to start cleaning the floor with acid, but my father stopped me and asked me to not use that as it would damage the floor. After that, he told me how to clean chips floor.

How to Clean Chips Floor at Home Easily?

My father told me that chips floors are very susceptible to damage from harsh chemicals, and they also get damaged when too much water is used. After that, he told me about the steps, which I have added below.

  • He asked me to start by vacuuming the balcony floor to remove all the dirt and debris. This is done to limit the usage of water.

  • Next, I had to add a mild cleaner to the floor along with some water and let it sit for sometime.

  • After that, he directed me to mop the floor with a damp mop to remove the cleaner.

  • I had to mop the floor a few times and then buff the floor to make it look clean and shiny.

This is how to clean marble chips floor. The process is very simple and you just have to be a bit patient. Hope this solves your issue.

A decade ago, more than marble or tile flooring, terrazzo flooring was common in India. I usually use a detergent and water solution for cleaning terrazzo floor, and it is really effective. You can use it but if the stains on your terrazzo floor are hard, you can use baking soda and water paste. There are several methods for how to clean terrazzo floor at home, so let me share the basic process here.

Which is the Best Way to Clean Terrazzo?

To clean terrazzo floor stains, you will need to swipe the floor with a broom, wipe it with some solution (I use floor cleaner), scrub the stains, and let it dry. Here is the entire process you should follow:

  • Start by removing loose dirt and debris using a soft-bristle broom or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.

  • Next, use a clean mop or a soft cloth dampened with the cleaning solution. I would personally recommend you avoid excessive water, as terrazzo is susceptible to water damage.

  • Make sure to wipe the entire floor gently with detergent and water solution (you can choose other solution as well), focusing on any spots or stains

  • For stubborn stains, you can make a paste with baking soda and water.

  • Apply it, let it sit, and then gently scrub the areas before rinsing.

  • Make sure to rinse the floor thoroughly to remove any residue, and dry the floor with a soft, clean cloth to prevent water spots.

If the stains are hard, you can use that red Harpic floor cleaner dissolved  in water as well. I use it so I can assure you that all your stains will get cleaned. Hope this helps.
