I used to clean my floor tiles using home remedies daily. The most simple and common way to do it is sweeping and mopping. However, recently, during the new year, our family hosted a party and we wanted to clean our entire house. So, I researched how to clean tile flooring easily. I found that tiles can be easily cleaned using baking soda scrub or mouthwash solution or steam cleaner. .

How to Clean My Tile Floor?

It’s not rocket science, so I can share with you a few home remedies that I came across. You can also follow any one of the following methods.

Baking Soda Scrub:

One of the most classic DIY cleaners is a mixture of ¼ cup of baking soda with ¼ cup of white vinegar, one tablespoon of liquid soap, and warm water. This versatile cleaning solution works best for all kinds of flooring tiles, excluding natural stones such as marble.

Mouthwash Solution

I recently came across this tip from a friend of mine who always uses mouthwash to clean the tile flooring. This can kill bacteria and germs from the floor with its strong antibacterial properties. However, avoid using this solution for wooden flooring as the alcohol content can damage the finish.

Steam Cleaner

If you’re allergic to chemicals or moulds, use a steam cleaner as it’s not only chemicals-free, it works amazingly to get rid of dirt and gives your space a fresh outlook.

Hydrogen Peroxide

If you’re looking to remove deep stains from the floor, consider mixing one part of hydrogen peroxide with three parts of baking soda and one tablespoon of liquid soap to create an excellent cleaning solution. This will maintain the shine of the flooring along with the durability.

I used a baking soda scrub method to clean my floor tiles during the new year party. However, it takes a lot of time and effort, so to save them, I will suggest you hire a professional cleaner. Hope these tips help you understand how to clean floor tiles at home.

1. **Sweep or vacuum:** Begin by removing loose dirt and debris from the floor tiles using a broom or vacuum cleaner. 2. **Mix a cleaning solution:** Prepare a solution of warm water and a mild detergent or floor cleaner. Avoid using abrasive chemicals that may damage the tiles. 3. **Mop the floor:** Dip a mop into the cleaning solution and wring it out well. Mop the floor, focusing on high-traffic areas and any stained spots. 4. **Spot cleaning:** For stubborn stains, use a soft brush or cloth with the cleaning solution to gently scrub the affected area. 5. **Rinse and dry:** Rinse the floor thoroughly with clean water to remove any residue, and then dry it with a clean, dry mop or towel to prevent slips and falls.

Earlier, I used to use dangerous cleaners like bleach to clean my tile floor, which eventually eroded my floor tiles. So, I asked a few of my society friends about floor tiles cleaning process. They suggested some easy cleaning methods and treatments to clean different kinds of tiles. I have shared the methods with you here.

How Do You Clean Tile Floors?

Ceramic Tiles
  • Using a cotton mop, you can combine dish soap or detergent with warm water to create a cleaning solution, then apply it to the kitchen and bathroom ceramic tiles.
  • For these tiles, you can also use a vinegar or lemon-water solution.
Porcelain Tiles
  • To create a non-abrasive cleaning solution, you will have to mix a quarter cup of vinegar with a pail of warm water.
  • Then before mopping the floor, spread the solution over small sections and let it set for a few minutes. This is one of the best ways to clean tile floors.
Cement Tiles
  • I would say that cement tiles can be cleaned once a month by mopping them with a combination of water and detergent.
  • Avoid using acidic cleaning agents, such as bleach, since they might dissolve the top layer sealer.
Marble Tiles
  • To clean marble tiles, mix a pail of water with half a cup of dish soap and mop the surface.
  • I would suggest you never forget to use a pH-neutral cleaning solution to keep your surface shiny.
  • Since water might discolour the porous stone, wipe the tiles with a gentle towel to complete the cleaning procedure.
Mosaic Tiles For mosaic tiles apply a vinegar and water solution to the tiles, let them sit for ten minutes, and then use a grout cleaning brush to scrub them.
