A few weeks ago, I noticed that my gypsum false ceiling was getting dusty. It had been a while since I cleaned it, and I realised I should take care of it before it got worse. I planned to get expert help and hence I hired a professional cleaner and asked him how to clean gypsum false ceiling. He said I can get it cleaned simply by using a dry cloth or duster. I have shared the detailed tips with you below.

How to Clean Gypsum Ceiling?

Here are the suggestions the professional cleaner gave me to clean my gypsum ceiling.

He suggested cleaning the surface with a duster or a dry towel. At first, I wasn't convinced, but he assured me using them wouldn't damage my ceiling.

  • He used a gentle wipe to clean my gypsum ceiling. He began at one corner and worked his way around. The dust came off easily this way.

  • For tougher spots, he said to use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment. This helps pull out the dust without scratching the ceiling.

  • One key point, he informed me, was to avoid harsh chemicals or water. It damages the gypsum material.

  • He advised me to clean the ceiling regularly, at least once every two weeks. This helps to avoid the buildup of dust and keeps the ceiling looking fresh.

I hope you found these tips helpful.

I have the perfect solution for how to clean gypsum false ceiling that I learned from a friend. You can just grab some daily items and clean the ceiling with mild detergent and water solution. But make sure you test the solution on a small area, check whether it is causing discolouration or not, and then proceed. Learn the entire process next.

How to Clean Gypsum Ceiling?

I use detergent and a lukewarm water solution to clean the gypsum ceiling, which has always been effective. Here is the process I follow:

  • I start by mixing mild detergent with lukewarm water in a bucket. I just use one tablespoon of detergent for every litre of water and stir until I see light suds.

  • Here is some advice: before applying the solution to the entire ceiling, make sure to test it on a small area to check for any discolouration or damage.

  • Then I dip a soft cloth or sponge into the detergent solution, squeeze it out well to avoid soaking the gypsum, and gently wipe the surface. I suggest you start at one corner and work your way across the ceiling in small sections.

  • After wiping a section, I make sure to use another clean, damp cloth to remove any soapy residue.

  • Finally, I use a dry microfiber cloth to dry the wet areas if necessary and leave it untouched for a few hours.

The best way to keep gypsum ceilings clean is to clean them at least once a month. Once they get stained or too dirty, it will become hard to clean them at home, and you will need to hire a professional.
