Last week, while cleaning my attic, I noticed some mold growing in a corner. I didn’t know how to deal with it, and to learn how to clean mold in attic, I called a friend. My friend owns a cleaning company, and he suggested that I wipe the moldy area with a rag and detergent to stop them from spreading. He asked me to dispose of the rag.

How to Get Rid of Mold in Attic?

Before getting started, he suggested that I procure a few pieces of protective gear, such as disposable clothing, gloves, and a face mask. He said these are important for avoiding contact with the mold spores. He also asked me to open the attic window before starting the process.

I have added the steps for the process of removing mold below.

  • My friend asked me to mix one cup of bleach with around 3 litres of water.

  • Next, I had to spray the solution on the mold-infected area and let it sit there for 15 - 20 minutes.

  • After that, I had to use a brush to scrub off the mold.

  • Finally, I wiped down the area with a clean and damp cloth.

This is how to remove mold from attic. As mentioned by Arun, my friend also suggested that I can use Vinegar and baking soda in the same way to get rid of mold.

How to Remove Mould in Attic?
  • To prevent the mould and safeguard the rest of the house, prepare the area by enclosing the attic with plastic sheeting.

  • Ensure adequate attic ventilation.

  • Use the HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum to clear the afflicted regions of any loose mould spores and dirt.

  • Use a brush and the detergent solution to clean the mold-infested plywood. As necessary, rinse and repeat.

  • You can create a homemade attic mold removal spray by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the affected areas, let it sit for about an hour, and then scrub gently.
