My nephew loves painting. We are left in complete awe of his artwork. However, I’ve always seen him supremely cautious about cleaning the oil paint brushes. Inspired by him I wanted to paint and create my own artwork. So I asked him how do I clean oil based paint brushes. As to keep oil paint brushes in good condition and avoid bristle damage, they must be cleaned.
How Do I Clean Oil Paint Brushes?
I’d like to share the steps that I learned from my nephew about how do you clean oil based paint brushes;
Wipe off any leftover paint from the bristles as much as you can with a paper towel or rag.
Dip the brush into a jar of white spirit, or an odourless alternative to turpentine, mineral spirits. To remove any leftover paint, give the brush a few whirls
To get rid of any remaining mineral spirits and oil, rinse the brush with warm water and soap. Using your fingers, work the soap into the bristles to guarantee a complete cleaning.
Use fresh water to thoroughly rinse the brush until all soap residue is removed. Gently reshape the bristles to their original form.
To maintain the bristles' softness and flexibility, dab on some artist's brush conditioner or a soap and linseed oil mixture.
To allow the brush to dry fully, hang it upside down. Heat should not be applied excessively as this can harm the bristles.
I hope this information on how do you clean oil paint brushes will help you.
