How to Clean a Persian Carpet at Home?
You just need to keep a few materials handy while cleaning a Persian carpet. Here’s what you need,
Cotton towels
Brush
Dishwashing soap (which doesn’t contain bleach)
Wooden stick
Vacuum cleaner
I usually follow the steps below,
Vacuuming
I vacuum the carpet thoroughly, starting from the top of the rug, then moving side to side. Don’t vacuum the fringes as it can damage the carpet.
Cleaning
Firstly, prepare a cleaning solution. I use dishwashing soap with water to dilute it, and then dip a clean towel into the solution. Then, gently rub over the carpet and switch to a clean towel when the current one gets dirty or just wash the towel and continue cleaning. Then, leave the carpet for 30-40 minutes to dry before walking on it.
Cleaning the Fringes
This is optional, but I usually do it using a wooden stick. You can use the same cleaning solution to dip the brush in and clean the fringes of the carpet. Work in sections and allow some time for the fringes to dry before switching sides.
So, this is how I clean my Persian carpet. It’s quite easy when you have the required materials. Make sure you regularly clean it to prevent the carpet from tough stains that can be difficult to get rid of. In case your carpet is extremely soiled and tacky, you might require professional help.
