Popcorn ceilings are a hassle to clean as the textured bumps break off pretty easily when they are disturbed. Cleaning them requires a lot of patience. I know about this because I have been cleaning them all by myself. When it comes to just cleaning, dust and cobwebs from the ceiling. Apart from this, there are three methods that I follow. Here is how to clean popcorn ceiling with ease.

What are the Some Easy Way to Clean Popcorn Ceiling?

The three methods that I follow to clean my popcorn ceiling are

  • Vacuuming

  • Using a Lint Roller

  • Using a Feather Duster

Let me explain how to use these methods to clean your popcorn ceiling.

Vacuuming

Vacuuming is the easiest among all the three methods. You can use your vacuum cleaner’s brush attachment and clean the whole ceiling. Just ensure that you are being gentle, or else you will end up breaking the textures.

Using Lint Roller

Lint rollers are quite efficient in cleaning popcorn ceiling with minor modifications. Wrap duct tape around the soft paint roller with the sticky side out and gently roll it over the ceiling to collect all the dust and cobwebs.

Using Feather Duster

Get an old-fashioned reusable duster, not a disposable one. Use it to dust the areas that need cleaning.

And that’s how you can clean popcorn ceiling. You just need to be a bit patient while carrying out these processes, or you may end up damaging the ceiling. Hope this helps.

Since my house was built in 1970, I felt that they were outdated. I love a sleeker, more contemporary appearance. Hence, I looked up online how to clean popcorn ceiling before painting and discovered that they could be done with warm water and a small amount of detergent. Additionally, the Lint Roller technique is an option. You can check the detailed procedure below.

How do you Clean Popcorn Ceiling without Making a Mess?

According to what my acquaintance told me, in order to guarantee the best finish possible, it must be well-cleaned prior. I found the Lint Roller method to get popcorn ceiling cleaned:

  • Increase the length of the lint roller's pole to three feet, or more.

  • To ensure the glue doesn't harm your textured surface, test the roller in a small section.

  • Carefully run the sticky roller, which is 10 inches broad, along the ceiling to collect dust.

  • Continue rolling the remaining ceiling once your roller sheet is full by switching it out for a refill sheet.

Moreover, I found the below method an easy way to clean popcorn ceiling:
  • Wrap your floors and furnishings with dropping cloths or plastic sheets to safeguard them.

  • In a bucket, combine warm water and a small amount of detergent.

  • Take a sponge or soft cloth and dip it into the solution.

  • Make little circular strokes while cleaning the ceiling.

  • To make sure you're using a clean solution the entire time, rinse the sponge often and change the water as necessary.

  • Give it enough time to dry thoroughly.

  • If required, coat the spots with a stain-blocking primer.

You may now begin painting your popcorn ceiling to make it more modern. I hope you got an idea of how to fix popcorn ceiling.

How to get dust off popcorn ceiling?

1) Organise the space and yourself

Prepare the room first. You must use drop cloths or a plastic sheet to completely cover the space, including the floor and furniture. Next, assemble all of your supplies and tools in a convenient location. A hoover or sweeper, a lint roller, sponges, fans, spray bottles packed with cleaning supplies, a stepladder and perhaps some primer and paint are also required.

2) Clear the dust

You can gently remove dust from the surface of the ceiling by using a vacuum with the biggest brush attachment. Alternatively, you can sweep the dust onto the carpeted floor using a soft-bristled broom or feather duster. Use a lint roller to try and pick up any hard-to-remove particles that may be stuck in the surface's slopes.

3) Clean stains thoroughly

Grease, smoke, mildew, water, or other substances can all leave stains on the ceiling. You must use a liquid cleaning solution in these places. You should combine 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap and one quart of warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the stain gently, then use a sponge to gently rub it while being careful not to overwet the ceiling.

Let it dry in a room with fans running all night.

4) Overpaint problematic areas

Cleaning products might not be able to completely remove some stains. In some circumstances, think about painting over the staining. Use an oil-based stain-blocking primer, then two coats of flat ceiling paint in the colour of your ceiling.

I hope how to clean popcorn ceiling is clear to you now.
