How to clean a silk carpet at home

• Use a soft broom

One of the most widely used methods is to wipe the dust off the carpet. This is done with the help of a broom. Ensure that the broom you use has soft bristles. This is to avoid any damage to the carpet’s silk fibres. Do this as a habit every few days to keep the carpet clean. 

• Hang and beat

If your carpet has consumed a lot of dust, an effective and quick way to clean it is by hanging and beating. You can do so by hanging the rug on a clothesline and dusting it off with a broom. Ensure to wear a mask to save yourself from inhaling any dust. Do this in an area where you’re alone. Make sure to beat it carefully as the silk fibres are delicate and can break.

• Baking Soda

Silk carpets catch bad odour easily. Thus, they become smelly over time. There’s a simple way to deal with this problem. Yes, baking soda is the solution! Just sprinkle a generous amount on top of the rug and let it sit for 2 hours. Then, evenly vacuum clean it in each area. That’s it, the smell is gone.
