Hi, my entire family is an ardent believer in Vastu Shastra, so when we renovated our house a few years back, we consulted a Vastu expert who guided us on following the right Vaastu for house construction. He explained to us the significance of the eight directions, governed by various Gods. While North and South are the directions for wealth and dharma, East and West are the directions for success and prosperity.

The vastu consultant enlightened us with some basic principles of Vastu which I have shared below.

• The rooms should be square or rectangular.

• The rooms should be well-ventilated, bright, and clean, including the corners of each room.

• You should keep heavy furniture in the South-west direction.

• You shouldn’t keep plants or aquariums in the bedroom.

• Your dining room should be near the kitchen and not the living room.

• The most important tip that he shared was on the placement of mirrors. If you’re placing a mirror in your bedroom, avoid keeping it in front of your bed.

• If you’re planning to build stairs like we did, consider building them in the South-west direction.

• The plot should be regular in shape

• Clear the plot off the thorny bushes

• Begin the construction on a day under sun, as the sun is considered as the most positive element

• Construct the compound walls before starting with the house construction

• Do not leave the construction materials open. Store them in a room in the south-west direction

• South west corner is considered the best place to start the construction work. You can then proceed in the north-west, south-east and then in north-west direction

• Construct the main entrance in the north, east, and North-East if the plot is north or East facing. If the plot is south or west facing, construct the main entrance in the South or South-East direction. In the plots facing West, the entrance should be in the West or North-West direction

• Construct the master bedroom in the South-West direction of the plot and the kitchen in the south-east corner

• Construct the pooja room  in the north-east direction

• Construct toilets in the North-West or west of the house, and the bathroom should be in the north, east,or North-West of the house.

• While constructing a house the walls should be straight and uniform.

• First, construct the boundary wall and then start working on the construction of the home.

• The height of the wall should be lower in the east and northeast.

• While constructing a house, establish the water tank in the North- North-East direction after performing the Bhoomi-Puja for wealth and prosperity.

• While implementing Vastu for house construction, don't keep bricks in the North-East direction.

• Do not keep any construction tools in the North-East to avoid delay in the construction.

The best time to perform Bhoomi Puja is the months of Baishakh, Shravan, Margshirsh, Magh, Falgun, Bhadrapad and Kartik. The best Muhurat of Bhumi Puja falls during the dates: 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 15th, 1st of Krishna Paksha in 2022. You should note that Saturdays, Sundays, and Tuesdays should be avoided for vasthu for house construction.
