In India, conversion of residential property to commercial sites is very common. It can be done easily by filling out some application forms prescribed by the municipality and submitting it to the concerned authorities. However, each state has its own set of rules and regulations. In fact, each local body has a set of rules that you must meet. So, I would suggest you visit the municipality and make an application to the municipal corporation for conversion of residential property into commercial property. They will provide you with the list of documents that you will need. Once you have these documents, you can submit it to the local authorities. Conversion from residential property to commercial property might require an NOC from Society/Association if applicable. Additionally, the above must be done through a registered Architect, by following due procedure of law.
