Hi there. I was looking for ways to learn how to close exhaust fan hole after we removed our old kitchen exhaust fan. I would like to tell you that you would have to shape two holes out of a breeze block of the same size as the hole in the wall to start. I have shared the next steps below for you to understand things better.

How to Close Kitchen Exhaust Fan Hole?

Here is how I covered the hole made by the exhaust fan in my kitchen.

  1. Take half a breeze block and draw two holes on it, which should be exactly the size of the hole created by the exhaust fan.

  2. Now, use a handsaw and rasp file to shape the two holes out of the breeze block.

  3. Then, take a hammer and tap one of the blocks into the hole from the inside. Before filling, ensure to remove any broken pieces.

  4. Repeat the same process for the outside region.

  5. Next, fill and sand the inside of the hole.

  6. Take some mortar and use it to fill the hole from the outside.

  7. Lastly, paint the inside and the outside regions to match the paint on the wall.

This is how the kitchen exhaust hole covering is done. I hope this helps you understand the process.

Hey,

I see you wish to know details about the exhaust fan shutter cover. Small spaces in the exhaust fan allow insects, house lizards, and bees to enter the house. I don’t like the idea of lizards. To make sure, my room or washroom has no insects. I follow the tips given below.

How to cover exhaust fan hole ?

 - Caulk :

You can seal the fan with caulk. It will act as a DIY kitchen wall exhaust fan cover when it is shaped. I would recommend wearing gloves while working with caulk.

-Sealing Putty :

Just put the putty around the installed fan. A lot of times, sealing putty is available in a spray format as well. The paste-like putty will dry and harden.

- Metal Tape :

If you live in a rental flat, you can cover the fan hole with metal tape. It will be easy to apply and easy to remove. Tape is also known as mastic. Just cut pieces of the appropriate size and stick them on the wall.

-Box :

You can get a ready-made kitchen exhaust fan cover from the market. The airtight box will keep the fan insulated and away from moisture. You can order a box from amazon as well.

-Foam :

You can make a box from foam and house wrap. You can seal the ends on the fan to the ceiling drywall directly. This method will require a few coats of foam to make a solid cover.

This is all from my end on the exhaust fan shutter cover. I hope the methods mentioned above work well for you.
