A few days back, I learned about the steps that I need to follow to paint a house. But one thing that I didn’t learn was how to cover furniture when painting. So, to know about that I called my friend again and asked him about it. Here is what he told me.

How to Cover Furniture for Painting?

My friend told me that there are quite a few ways to cover furniture during painting but only a handful are always used. Those are

Blankets

He said that blankets are great against accidental paint spills and scratches. They can be used on larger pieces of furniture that can’t be moved easily.

Plastic Sheets

Next, he told me about Plastic sheeting. He said that they provide a moisture-proof barrier and are very useful for protecting carpets while painting.

Painter’s Tape

The last option he told me about was painter’s tape. He added that it is designed to create clean and crisp lines. According to him it’s a great option for protecting areas that require precise lines.

And that’s all he told me when I asked him how to cover furniture while painting. I hope this helps.

How to Paint a House Interior?

During the first lockdown, me and my husband were stuck and we thought instead of sulking, we should do something fun. We decided to re-do our living room. The whole decor and paint, basically everything about that room. Starting with the painting job, we had to be careful of a few things such as protecting our carpets and furniture and electrical items of course. So I asked him how to cover furniture when painting, honey. He said, he had it under control. I saw him reach out for a few things he had stacked in the corner of the room. Here is what I saw next.

How to cover furniture while painting?

My husband had already made a list of things we would require to cover the furniture. Here is what the list included:

  • Old bedsheets

  • Plastic sheets

  • Duct tape or broad tape

  • Newspapers

After putting all these things in the center of the room, he asked me to help him move the furniture right at the center of the room so that we didn’t have to move it again while painting corners.

I advised him to first spread the bedsheet and then move the furniture in the center. After doing that we laid newspapers around the stacked furniture and the whole room. Since the carpet is fixed and in a good condition, we didn’t want to ruin it by being careless.

Post laying the newspapers down, we took the plastic sheets and started covering the furniture. We wrapped it like a gift and sealed every opening we could find. We also laid down plastic sheets on the floor overall so that even if the paint dripped, there was lesser mess and our carpet and furniture was protected.

If you are wondering how to cover cabinets, then the technique is pretty much the same. You just have to be extra careful while covering the handles as they may remain exposed. Some extra tape may be required.

This is how to cover furniture when painting. I hope our experience helps you out :)
