Hey mate! I faced a similar problem when I discovered that there was space between my bedroom’s door and the floor. Hence, I thought of finding how to fill gap between door and floor. Luckily, I found three effective solutions to treat this problem. So, let me share the ways for you to know how to close the gap under a door.

How to close gap between door and floor

  • Adjustable door threshold:

An effective solution for you to close the gap between your door and floor is by installing door thresholds. These are used mainly for the purpose of closing the gaps between the floor and the bottom surface of the door. You may require trimming the threshold as well.

  • Bristle sweeps:

These are places at the foot of the door. They serve the purpose of removing debris when the door closes. They can be considered a broom as well because they clear the area underneath the door each time it is opened or closed.

  • Rubber seals:

It can be understood as a curtain that also helps in keeping the debris away that is under the door. They can be easily installed and removed.

I hope my answer helps you to learn how to fix gap between door and floor.

I can’t stand a gap between the door and the floor, especially if it’s the main door. One has to constantly deal with dirt, moisture, and air that may come in through the gap. My father told me to install a door sweep. And trust me, it is a very simple yet effective door bottom gap filler method.

A door sweep is a rubber, plastic, or bristle barrier specifically developed to close up the gap between the floor and the door. When installed on the door’s inside surface, it helps keep the room airtight as well as prevent the entry of crawling insects and dirt.

There are several types of door sweeps available in the market and the most common one is the screw-in door sweep.

How to cover space between door and floor using a screw-in door sweep:
  • First, use a tape measure to measure the width of the door.

  • Next, compare the width of the door with the width of the door sweep and ensure they are the same. I want you to know that door sweeps are generally either 42 inches or 36 inches in size. If the width of your door is less than width of the door sweep, you will have to cut the door sweep to the ideal size using a hack saw.

  • Keep the door sweep against your door’s bottom end in a way that the gap between your floor and the door is closed.

  • Screw the door sweep in place with the screws given.

  • Make sure there aren’t any gaps between the door sweep and the door. In case you find any gaps, unscrew the door sweep and fix it properly.
