PVC pipes often referred to as Polyvinyl Chloride pipes mainly used for plumbing, for irrigation purposes and many other household works.
There are some emergency cases in which we have to work with the PVC pipes at home itself but don’t exactly know how to cut PVC pipe at home? Don't worry, I got you covered. If you want to cut the pipe at home, it is very simple. You just need to have some basic knowledge of how to use some of the tools such as:
Pencil or a Marker
Measuring tape or a Ruler (Scale)
A pipe cutter
Sandpaper
So the steps which would follow in cutting the pipe are-
Measure the length to be cut-Just mark till the point you want the PVC pipe to be cut and mark the point with a pencil or a marker
Choose the cutting tool-You could either use a hacksaw which is a fine-tooth blade for the cleaner cuts or you could use a PVC pipe cutter to simply cut the pipe on the mark which you have marked.
Start cutting-After choosing the point to cut, start cutting the pipe
Check for roughness-After cutting the pipe, check the edges for smoothness. If there is any roughness on the edges, use sandpaper to remove the roughness and make it smooth.
Take carethat you wear appropriate safety gear such as gloves and glasses to protect you from the potential accidents and double check your measurements before cutting to avoid any mistakes.
But sometimes what happens that in every household, we do not find these equipments handy. With that the question arises how to cut PVC pipe without tools.
But that should not be a problem. Without these tools also, a person can very conveniently cut the pipe with very basic tools. You can use a string or a strong and thin rope (eg: nylon or twine) and a lighter.
So the steps which would follow in cutting the pipe are-
Measure the length-Like the procedure mentioned above, first mark on the pipe that from where you want to make the cut
Take the required length of the rope-that is the length of the rope should be a bit longer than the circumference of the pipe you are cutting
Wrap the string-that is, you have to wrap the string around the mark you have made on the pipe and you have to make sure that the string follows the mark that you made.
Heat the string from the middle-That is you hold the strings from both the sides and start heating the string from the middle. What will happen is that it will become easier to cut the plastic with a heated object.
Check the edges-Once the cutting is done, check for the smoothness. If there is any roughness found, then you can use sandpaper to smoothen it further.
As you can see that both the options, that is, cutting with proper tools and cutting it with some household things, are available. Both the processes are equally efficient in cutting the pipe but the second process that is cutting it with string needs more precision but it will do the work.
Hope you found the answer to your question.
