How to Decorate Book Shelves?
Here's
how to decorate with bookshelves
into a visually appealing and well-organized masterpiece:
Create a Balanced Composition: Arrange books of varying heights and widths to create visual interest. Stack some horizontally and others vertically, breaking up the monotony of straight lines.
Incorporate Personal Collections: Showcase items that reflect your interests, such as souvenirs from travels, framed photos, or trinkets that hold sentimental value.
Add Decorative Objects: Intersperse decorative pieces like small sculptures, vases, or candles among the books to add visual appeal and break up the monotony of text.
Utilize Color Coordination: Group books by colour to create a harmonious visual flow. You can also arrange books in a rainbow gradient for a vibrant touch.
Play with Negative Space: Leave some empty spaces on the shelves to avoid a cluttered look. These gaps provide breathing room for the eye and highlight the displayed items.
Utilize Bookends: Employ stylish bookends to prevent books from toppling over and add a decorative touch. Choose bookends that complement your décor or reflect your personality.
Incorporate Lighting: Install accent lighting above or below the shelves to illuminate your books and decorative items, creating a warm and inviting ambience.
Personalize with Artwork: Hang artwork or framed prints above or beside the bookshelf to create a cohesive visual display. Choose pieces that complement the overall style of the room.
Add a Touch of Greenery: Incorporate small potted plants or trailing vines to bring a touch of nature to your bookshelf. Plants add a refreshing contrast to the books and enhance the overall aesthetic.
Embrace Your Style: Let your bookshelf reflect your unique style and personality. Don't be afraid to experiment with different arrangements and decorative elements until you achieve a look that speaks to you.

Are you a bookworm? Do you have a bookshelf that needs some rearrangement? If so, you just landed at the right place. Here I am going to talk about how to decorate a bookshelf and share my most favourite tips to arrange bookshelves. You will need some books, some skills, and a creative mind, haha! Anyway, let us look at how to decorate your bookshelves uniquely.
- Embrace Asymmetry
Not everything in this world should be well-organized. I know libraries have a set pattern to keep books but if you own a bookshelf, then you can go for an unarranged look. You can go for a horizontal and vertical pattern to keep your books. A word of advice: Keep the binding on the book on the outer side so that you can easily read and locate your favourite book.
- Place house plants in between
Once you place your books in an asymmetrical pattern, take advantage of the platform created by the books and place small house plants or indoor plants in the bookshelves. I prefer money plants, syngonium or aglaonema plants. They fit in just perfectly.
- Hang a few art pieces around your bookshelf
Decorating a bookshelf doesn’t only mean stacking up books and art pieces. You can work up the space around your bookshelf and hang some of your favorite art pieces or paintings. I happen to have a creative hand and I have hung some abstract work on the right side of my bookshelf, it looks awesome.
- Play with colours
Eliminate the boring colours right away. You can self-paint the bookshelf with bright colours. The personal touch will automatically make it look more appealing. You can go for peacock blue, bright pink shades if your walls are all neutrals.
These are the top 4 tips which I personally follow. I hope I was able to give you the best tips on how to decorate a bookshelf.
