I love surprising my kids. I have two daughters who are into sports. On the annual sports day in their school, both of them won the 1st prize in the races they participated in. This was their first-ever gold medal and I was beyond proud. To celebrate and remember their achievements, I wanted to make something special. After some research, I looked up shadow box decorating ideas.

Luckily, I found quite a lot of them and ultimately decided to add a touch of mine to the box. My kids went crazy when they saw the surprise hanging on their bedroom wall. So If you want to know how to decorate a shadow box, I can help you.

Materials Required

  1. A deep frame

  2. Scrapbook paper (optional)

  3. Mementos

  4. Glue or thumb tacks

  5. Measuring tape

  6. A hammer

  7.  A pencil

  8. A nail

As you can see, these are the three basic things you’ll need. In case you don’t have a frame, buy one from the internet. There, you’ll have the flexibility to choose between multiple colours and designs too.

Shadow box wall decor: Process

  • Select your theme

The first step calls for deciding on a theme. Here, you would want to focus on one particular area. This can be anything from a trip to your child’s first birthday. So, pick the memory you wish to display and gather your pictures and mementoes accordingly.

  • Layout and placement

It's time to bring your mementos together and place them inside the shadow box. As I said in the previous point, ensure that you stick to the theme while picking the items. Now, display your creativity and try different layouts that work for you. A good way is to overlap a few of the mementoes in your shadow box. This will help in filling empty spaces. You can play around with the direction and angle as well! Once you’re done with the layout, place all of the pieces in the box. Use a glue stick or thumbtacks to do so. You can also do a mix of both like I did for my kid.

  • Hang your creation

With the creative part over, next comes the task of hanging the box on our wall. For this, I would recommend you choose the right spot instead of just hanging it on any existing nail. With the help of a measuring tape, find the area where you would like to hang the box. Then, mark the area with a pencil. Take your nail and hammer it on the marked region.

That’s it. You can now sit back and relax. Adore the outcome of your hard work and be ready to showcase it to your family and friends.

This is one of the shadow box decorating ideas I’m aware of. I hope this helps you in creating a beautiful one yourself.
