A year ago, I purchased a 500-square-foot house. However, I had no idea how to decorate small apartment without making it appear cluttered. I therefore googled about it online and got some creative ideas from Pinterest, including

adding multipurpose furniture, shelving units, light-colored wall paint, hanging mirrors

, and more. I have shared a simple tip that can help your small house appear larger below.

How to Decorate a Small Studio Apartment?

While researching design ideas for my small apartment, I came across the following tips:

1. Use Vertical Space
  • Include vertical storage by adding a vintage ladder to hold placemats, towels, quilts, and blankets.

  • Make use of the tops of your bookcases, and doorways to showcase treasures, add lighting, or lean frames.

  • For both seating and storage, install a coffee table with integrated storage or a convertible sofa.

2. Put in Floating Shelves

Organising your belongings and using your valuable floor space can be achieved by installing wall-mounted cabinets and shelving units.

Also, try to choose hanging and wall-mounted lights over floor lamps.

3. Apply Light Colour Paint
  • As softer hues make a small apartment look bigger and brighter, so apply light colour paints on the walls and floor.

  • You can also select light-colored furniture, and curtains for your small flat. It will give your space a sense of expansion.

4. Hang Mirror
  • Make thoughtful placement of mirrors to create the illusion of a larger area.

  • According to my research, I found that putting mirror opposite a window or next to a light source can reflect light and give the impression of depth.

Moreover, Debjani mentioned above, you can also add greenery or artwork to your flat. But, make sure that you don’t overcrowd your space with too many items.

I hope you got an idea of how to decorate a very small apartment.

I understood the value of a decorative apartment when I moved into a rental apartment in a new city. My apartment had enough ventilation yet looked dull, maybe because of the dull white colours on the walls. I did not like inviting my friends there, so I checked out some ideas on how to decorate a small apartment. After all, for how long can you avoid inviting people? I implemented some easy and affordable ideas and gave my room the best look. Read this answer to know what I did.

How to decorate apartment living room?

I had to give my living room the best look so that people could sit and simply tell me, Wow, your house is looking too good. Some of the ideas I executed to decorate my living space are-

  • Added some greener or indoor plants to my space

  • Bought floral curtains to contrast with the white walls and give the space a relaxing look

  • Got all my things arranged properly and put my books on the bookshelf

  • Since I draw a lot, I drew a mandala on a big chart paper, framed it and hung it in my living room

  • And lastly, placed a small yet beautiful lamp on a table

I was so happy with the new look. You can implement these ideas in any of your rooms and give them a new vibe. If you have more ideas on how to decorate a small apartment, please share them here.
