How to Design Home Plan?

My uncle is a civil engineer, so I asked him how to make house plans before starting to build my dream home. This is because, in my opinion, it is highly complex if appropriate measures and considerations are not made. He told me to make house plans, decide what I need, set a budget, take measurements, scale walls, and include fixtures and furniture. 

For your reference, I have included the detailed steps I took to design my house plan below.

How to Design House Plans?

Your house is a reflection of your personality; a place to relax, invite guests, and make lifelong memories. Whether you are designing a new home or completely renovating it from scratch, you have complete control over how each element fits your vision and way of life. But, for that, you need to know about creating a house plan.

• Start by figuring out your required number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the desired design, and flow of the house. Also, determine any particular features like fireplaces, shelving, and so on.

• Then, consider the budget.

• Measure the walls, doors and relevant furniture if you are planning to renovate your entire building so that the floor plan is accurate. If the layout is being designed for a completely new space, make sure the entire area will fit in the designated building location. 

• Draw the measurement you have taken either using a computer-aided design (CAD) online tool or by hand.

• Draw windows in each room to the accurate scale.

• Draw the area for adding furniture or fixtures, such as refrigerator, dishwasher, dryer, and other major appliances which will go in a certain spot.

• Once the rough sketch is finished, make adjustments to the floor plan and take the home's exterior design or placement of plumbing and electrical into consideration.

• Finally, complete the detailed construction drawings.

Before I built my beautiful house, I had many questions in my mind like, should I construct a home with one floor or two? Do I require an additional bedroom, or would I prefer to use that area for a terrace or garden? Will I be able to build a garage or will I have to use a covered area for parking? I had no idea

how to make a house plan, so I asked a friend of mine who is an interior designer. He went out of his way to help me out and outlined a few steps for me to understand

how to design home plan. I will share the steps with you.

How to design a house floor plan?

Step 1: Determine the plot size by its length and breadth.                                                                                                                                                         

Step 2: Determine the setbacks. The open area between the compound wall and the wall of the house that is being planned is referred to as the setback.

Step 3: Determine the road width. Location and road width will make it easier to designate a specific area for car entry, parking, and exit, as well as an entrance gate.

Step 4: Check the direction. The greatest way to grasp the four cardinal directions—east, west, north, and south—is in the direction of north. This, in turn, aids in knowing the seasonal climate in the area.

Step 5: A home needs to be adaptable to the climate in any given location. If taken into account, it will assist in making more thoughtful design decisions for the house-planning process.

Step 6: If doing some online study on home planning and design may give you a fresh perspective on contemporary home designs, it might not be such a bad idea. 

Step 7: Draw the plot's perimeter, then divide it in half equally in both vertical and horizontal directions. After that, in both directions, draw parallel lines spaced 600mm or 2 feet away from one another.

Step 8: Once your drawing is complete, make a list of all the things the house needs.

Step 9: Draw a single line around the room's arrangement. Once the bubble diagrams are more in line with your specifications, firm up the lines indicating the walls with a coloured pen.     

Step 10: Lay a second tracing sheet on top of the first drawing. Assume that the walls are 9 inches thick, and change the single lines that were initially drawn to double wall lines.

Step 11: In the same manner as previously, mark the door openings as needed.       

Step 12: On the drawing, label the window apertures.

Step 13: Use this layout to create them using an online drawing application or software.

Step 14: Place furniture in the space to gain a more accurate idea of the interior space.

It's time to make full use of their furniture library when you've imported the hand-drawn layout into one of the aforementioned online house planning & sketching applications or software.
