Recently, I had to dismantle a door knob in my apartment. I’m not exactly a DIY expert, but it turned out to be an easier task than I anticipated. So if you are wondering how to dismantle a door knob, I can share the steps that I followed.

How to Dismantle a Door Handle?

  • Take Out the Screws: I began by removing the screws from the door knob's inner side. Making sure the doorknob didn't fall out of the door, I cautiously took out the last screw.

  • Take the Door Knob Apart: After removing the screws, I took one knob in each hand and pulled it apart. Although they were simply disassembled, the outside knob was a little caught on the latch. It was released after some back-and-forth twisting.

  • Remove the Latch: After that, I took the latch assembly out of the door by removing the two screws that held it in place. Since the lock was a little rigid, I gently tapped it with my screwdriver and pulled it in my direction until it was released.

  • Lastly, I removed the strike plate from the door jamb by unscrewing it. To remove it without harming the plate or breaking the door frame, I had to carefully insert the screwdriver into the latch hole and pry it outward.

By the end of the process, I felt quite accomplished. Tackling this small project gave me confidence for future home maintenance tasks. However, I’d suggest if you are not sure about handling this task you must hire a professional carpenter to help you with the job. I hope this helps you understand how to disassemble a door handle.
