Nail-Down Installation

This affordable technique offers stable, solid installation by hammering each panel straight to the flooring. This classic method works well with both engineered and solid hardwood.

Glue-Down Installation

The planks are attached in certain places after an adhesive or glue is placed to the flooring (this method works best for concrete). It works well in places where moisture is an issue and is often applied to engineered hardwood.

Installing Click-Lock

This quick and easy method entails locking the planks without fastening them to the subfloor. Rather, they click together securely, making them ideal for engineered hardwood and do-it-yourself applications.

To start the installation, you must lay the first row of hardwood planks along the longest wall. For natural expansion, leave a tiny space between the planks and the wall. After installation, give the hardwood flooring a few days to settle before rearranging the room\'s furniture. This reduces the chance of the planks being damaged or shifting.

How to do hardwood flooring yourself : Step by step guide:

1. Check what type of hardwood pieces and board widths you want for the room.

2. Measure the length and breadth of the room and multiply for square footage. Purchase 10-15% extra boards for cutting mistakes.

3. See the subfloors and the minimum requirement should be a 3/4" plywood subfloor. There should have been no squeaks on the floor. If there are squeals then the joist where the squeak has appeared.

4. Take out the strips of vapour barrier paper. You should let 4" overlap and staple securely to the subfloor. Mark the baseboards where the joists are situated.

5. Install the wood from the longest unobstructed wall. Start removing the shoe moulding and snap a chalk line 3/8" from the baseboard.

6. Drill potholes to the tongue of the boards and nail the rolls till you find clearance for pneumatic nail guns.

7. Start cutting the baseboards and choose a piece that will fit. Leave at least 10 to 12 inches and cut the baseboard. 

8. Remove the shoe mouldings from the room and putty. Also, use wood putty that matches the floor.
