Navratri simply translated in English means nine nights. It is an auspicious period in Hindu households in which goddess Durga is worshiped in her nine forms. Durga maa symbolizes compassion, glory, and power. If you are wondering how to do navratri puja at home, I can share a few tips my mom had shared with me a couple of years ago.

How to do navarathri pooja at home?

I will share the process of durga puja at home during navratri with you below. Please read through it carefully.

  • In your mandir you must place Maa Durga’s picture or idol on a wooden platform also known as chowki or a stool

  • Now decorate the platform with flowers, and other puja items such as clay pot, coconut, paan leaves, coins, incense sticks, camphor, etc.

  • Please ensure that all of this is placed on a red cloth

  • Keep a glass of water next to all the things mentioned above

  • To decorate your set up further, you can draw rangoli

Now let us look at how to do navratri puja at home

You must get up early in the morning and take a bath. After taking bath, go to the puja room and light the akhand jyoti or diya. Now you will have to do kalash sthapana. In the kalash you will have to put the coconut wrapped in red cloth on pan leaves, a clove and incense sticks. Perform the havan or aarti. On the ninth day of the pooja, you can call nine girls and a boy and make prasad and do the final puja.

I hope this clarifies your doubts on how to do navratri puja at home.
