• Place the idol or photo of Varalakshmi 

• Decorate the photo or idol of the goddess

• Offer fresh flowers, sweets and water to her

• Perform the Lakshmi goddess aarti with diya, kapoor and agarbatti

Each year I see my aunt conduct the Varalaxmi pooja in her household. Everybody in the family awaits the post pooja celebration. The fast is observed on the Friday before Shravan Purnima. The fast is called Varalakshmi Vratam. 

• You are supposed to take a bath in the morning of the pooja and wear clean clothes. 

• You will be observing the fast on the day of the pooja

• Clean the pooja area and clarify it with gangajal.

• Further, a paste made of turmeric and water to the platform and make a rangoli with rice powder.

• Take some Akshat and put it on the center of the platform.

• Put the plate on top of the AKshat spread area and spread rice on the plate.

• Further, you will need to pour water into the Kalash and put Akshat in it.

• Add a garland of flowers around the neck of the Goddess and decorate the idol with beauty items.

• Chant Mantras dedicated to Goddess Varalakshmi. Or the Mahalakshmi Saharanamam Stotram.

• Offer the Goddess some flowers and then offer the tamboolam (paan, supari, fruits, Dakshina, flowers, etc) along with the Naiveidhyam Sundal, ( Kheer, Modak, Idli, etc ) 

• Sing the aarti and ask for blessings from the Goddess.
