How to Drill a Large Hole in Wood?

For some reason, I had to drill a large hole in the wooden kitchen door, but I didn’t know how to do it. I called my uncle, who is an expert at these things, and asked him how to drill a large hole in wood. He told me about the steps and I have added those below. 

How to Drill a Big Hole in Wood?

Here are the steps that my uncle told me about.

Step 1: Choosing the Right Drill Bit

Uncle told me that for any drilling work, it's important to choose the right drill bit. He told me that, to drill big holes, I either need to spade bits or hole saws. According to him, Spade bits are available are an affordable option, but hole saws are available in different sizes. He said that, when it comes to how to drill a round hole in wood, hole saws are the best when drilling bigger holes. 

Step 2: Preparing the Wood

He told me to mark the area where I was planning to drill with a pen or pencil. My Uncle told me to be very careful while drilling, as a minor mistake can result in a broken drill bit or uneven hole. 

Step 3: Setting the Depth

He suggested me to set a depth stop on the drill bit. He said that this would prevent me from drilling too deep and damaging the wood or the drill bit. 

Step 4: Start Drilling

After adding the Depth stop, he told me to start the drilling process. For drilling, he told me that I should hold the drill firmly with both hands and start drilling at a low speed. He told me to drill the marked spot and to make sure that the drill was perpendicular to the surface, and I applied pressure as well. 

Step 5: Clean the Area

Uncle told me that, after I’ve finished drilling the hole, I need to clean the wood chips and sawdust from the area. For cleaning, he told me to use a brush or vacuum to remove the debris.
