Before looking into the process, you must know.
Form 16: Provided by your employer, it contains details of salary and TDS.
Form 26AS: Check tax credits and TDS deductions on the Income Tax Portal.
Bank Statements: For interest income or other transactions.
Investment Proofs: Documents for deductions under Section 80C, 80D, etc.
For salaried employees, ITR-1 (Sahaj) is applicable (if income is below Rs.50 lakhs and there is no business income). Here\'s a step-by-step guide to fill ITR online for salaried employees.
Visit
www.incometax.gov.in.
Log in using your PAN, password, and captcha. If not registered, complete the registration process first.
Go to e-File > Income Tax Return.
Select the assessment year.
Choose Online Mode and select ITR-1.
Fill in personal details, income details (salary, interest income, etc.), and deductions (e.g., 80C, 80D).
Verify the pre-filled data with your Form 16 and Form 26AS.
Calculate the tax liability, if applicable, and pay the balance tax using Challan 280.
Submit the return and e-verify it via Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or other available methods.
Finally, download the ITR-V (acknowledgment) for your records.

If you are employed in a public or private sector organization and fall under the income tax bracket, it’s necessary to understand how to file income tax return online for salaried employee. It is very simple.
Just follow the steps given below:
Go to the Income Tax e-Filing website and log in using PAN Card number and Password
Go to the 'e-File' menu and then click on the 'Income Tax Return' link
On Income Tax Return Page, your PAN Card details will get filled in automatically
Select the Assessment Year and choose the ITR Form Number
Choose 'Filing Type' as 'Original/Revised Return'
Choose the Submission Mode while preparing and submitting the form online
After that, go to “Continue” and fill the form carefully
Under the 'Taxes Paid and Verification' tab, choose the correct ‘Verification’
Press the 'Preview and Submit' button
After that, you will have to do the verification. There are two ways to do it:
- Physical e-verification:
Print the form and write the place and date and add your signature at the page’s bottom
Mail the document via speed post to the specified address
If you’re required to pay additional tax, then you can do it online or send a cheque as specified on the website.
- Online e-verification:
Select “e-verify” under “My account” tab from the top menu
Choose the ITR that you want to verify
If you’re required to pay an additional tax, then just click on “Pay now” and complete the process.
Click on “e-verify using Aadhaar OTP” in case your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar card number
After that, you will receive an OTP on your mobile number. Fill it in and click “e-verify”
