How to file revised ITR?

 If a taxpayer mistakenly submits the wrong statement in the original Income Tax Return, there is a chance for the taxpayer to revise the return. This is how a taxpayer can correct the statement and submit the right information. How to file income tax revised online return?

  1. Visit the Income Tax e-Filing portal at:

www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in

  1. Log in to the e-Filing portal by filling in the user ID (PAN), Password, and Captcha code and click ‘Login’.

  2. Tap on the e-File- menu and navigate to the ‘Income Tax Return’ link.

  3. On the Income tax page:

  • Your PAN will be auto-populated

  • Choose ‘Assessment Year’ 

  • Choose ‘ITR form Number’ 

  • Choose ‘Filing Type’ as ‘Original/Revised Return’ 

  • Choose ‘Submission Mode’ as ‘Prepare and Submit Online

  1. Below the ‘General Information’ bar select ‘Return of Filing Section’ as ‘Revised return under section 139 (5)’ and ‘Return filing type’ as ‘Revised’.

  2. Fill in the ‘Acknowledgement Number’ and Date of filing of the Original Return filed.

  3. It is mandatory to fill in a 15-digit Acknowledgement number when filing the revised return online. If your acknowledgement number is less than 15 digital kindly suffix the acknowledgement number with zeros.

  4. Correct the details and submit the ITR again.

  5. e-Verify and check the confirmation status or send the  ITR-V through normal or speed post to “Centralised Processing Centre, Income Tax Department, Bengaluru-560500
