I can tell you how to install a door closer as we recently got a regular arm installation done for our main entrance door. The best part about a door closer is that it saves energy and provides security. They help maintain indoor temperature levels by ensuring doors close properly, which can also reduce the utility costs. I have shared a detailed guide on the door closer installation.
How Do You Install a Door Closer?
We got the installation done from a professional carpenter, who explained the process to us briefly.
He told us that to ensure a wide opening angle, you should install the door closer at a distance of 95 mm from the door hinge and the arm rod at a distance of 30 mm above the closer body.
Then, you have to drill holes using a 5 mm drill bit.
Once done with the drilling, the next step is to mount the closer body to the door and secure it with screws.
Then, he fixed the arm rod to the top jamb.
As a next step, he fixed the closer body and the main arm together with a combination screw.
Then, he said one should adjust the arm rod to position its holes with the screw hole of the main arm.
Finally, you need to fix the arm rod and main arm together with a screw, then adjust the arm rod until it’s at a 90 degrees angle to the closer body. Once done, tighten it with a screw.
So, these are the steps you can follow. I hope this helps you understand the door closer how to install.

How to Door Closer Fitting?
With a few simple tools and the below steps, you can complete the relatively easy task of fitting a door closer:
Choose the door opening, and draw two holes on the frame for the arm shoe and four holes for the door closer.
For the included screws, drill the pilot holes in the door and frame.
Using the screws that come with the door closer, attach the forearm or arm shoe assembly to the door frame.
Now, install the door closer with included screws. The hinge edge must be the position of the speed-adjusting valve.
Put the main arm perpendicular to the door on the top pinion shaft.
Use the included arm screw or washer assembly to secure firmly.
When the forearm is attached to the main arm that is already loaded, modify its length so that it is perpendicular to the frame.
Using the included screw/washer assembly, connect the forearm to main arm.
Finally, lock the pinion cap over the closer's shaft.
For fitting a chain door closer, you can follow the above steps. It is crucial to check that the arm moves freely and without obstruction. You must also ensure that the door closer is centered. I hope now you have an idea of the door closer how to install.
