I had planned to install door closer at my workshop a few months ago. I searched about the procedure online and found that standard arm installation is the most widely used technique for installing door closers. This is the situation where an in-swing door closer is mounted on the hinge side. Read the answer to know the detailed procedure.

How to Door Closer Fitting?

With a few simple tools and the below steps, you can complete the relatively easy task of fitting a door closer:

  • Choose the door opening, and draw two holes on the frame for the arm shoe and four holes for the door closer.

  • For the included screws, drill the pilot holes in the door and frame.

  • Using the screws that come with the door closer, attach the forearm or arm shoe assembly to the door frame.

  • Now, install the door closer with included screws. The hinge edge must be the position of the speed-adjusting valve.

  • Put the main arm perpendicular to the door on the top pinion shaft.

  • Use the included arm screw or washer assembly to secure firmly.

  • When the forearm is attached to the main arm that is already loaded, modify its length so that it is perpendicular to the frame.

  • Using the included screw/washer assembly, connect the forearm to main arm.

  • Finally, lock the pinion cap over the closer's shaft.

For fitting a chain door closer, you can follow the above steps. It is crucial to check that the arm moves freely and without obstruction. You must also ensure that the door closer is centered. I hope now you have an idea of the door closer how to install.
