Hi there,

My father purchased a vintage home back in 2016. The house gave all the vintage vibes with its architectural designs but there were many things that needed to be redesigned and renovated. One of those things are the washrooms and the toilet. Since we did not know how to fit an English toilet seat, we had to do our own research and then do the task. If you are also looking for the process of commode seat fitting, I will explain to you the process I followed.

How to Fit English Toilet Seat

1. Measure for and Pick Out Your New Toilet: To begin, take a measurement from the rear wall to the nearest bolts on your current toilet. The distance between the wall and the water supply lines on the floor should also be measured.

2. Assemble Your Tools and Materials: The following is a list of the essential tools and supplies for toilet replacement:

  • Safety glasses are required.

  • Hacksaw

  • Knife for applying putty

  • Gloves for the workplace

  • Bolts for closets

  • Nuts and washers

  • Shims for the toilet

3. Remove the Existing Toilet: Let's take a look at the steps involved in replacing your toilet.

  • Disconnect the water supply lines from the tank of your old toilet.

  • Using a sponge, remove the water from the toilet bowl. Then loosen the nuts that hold your toilet bowl in place on the floor.

  • Lift your toilet carefully and place it out of the way.

  • Remove the wax ring that connects the toilet to the floor.

  • Fill in the hole where your toilet used to be.

  • Remove the old bolts from the closet.

  • If required, repair the flange.

4. Install the New Toilet: Follow the given steps to install the new toilet.

  • Put your new closet bolts in place.

  • Then, gently press the new wax ring into the hole at the bottom of the new toilet bowl after softening it in warm water.

  • Remove the rag from your drain and position your new toilet bowl over the closet bolts that you inserted in step 1.

  • Using the necessary washers and nuts, secure the new toilet bowl to the floor.

  • Cut any excess bolt sticking up from the base of your new toilet using your hacksaw. Then, to protect the bolts, use the caps that came with your new toilet.

  • Install the bolts and seal the tank by flipping it over.

  • Tighten the nuts to the bolts and place the tank on top of the bowl.

  • Reconnect your water supply lines and turn on the water.

  • Examine the gasket and supply line for any leaks.

  • You're done once you've installed the toilet seat.

This was the process I followed for

commode seat fitting at my new home. I hope it helps you.
