A few days back, I noticed that the hydraulic door closer to my living room door wasn’t working. I poked around the thing to make it work, but nothing happened, and I understood it was broken. After that, I started researching how to fix a hydraulic door closer. I learned that there are three parts to a hydraulic door closer, which are back check, sweep or main speed, and latching speed.
How to Repair Hydraulic Door Closer?
To fix it, all three components of the hydraulic door closer need to be adjusted. Here are a few steps you need to follow to fix the door closer.
Start by loosening the fasteners and sliding the cover to expose the adjustment valves.
Turn the valves clockwise until they stop. This is done to close the valves.
Make about 1.25-1.5 turns counterclockwise and open the door to ensure that it comes to a steady stop. To make the door open wider, turn the valve counterclockwise.
Now, make 1.5-2 turns counterclockwise in the sweep/main speed to adjust the closing speed of the door. You can turn the valve clockwise to slow down the door.
Finally, make 1.5-2 turns counterclockwise to get the latching speed that you want.
After doing that, check if the door is opening according to the way you want. Make the required adjustments if it isn’t. Hope this helps.
