Hello Shifa, I know how to fit a wardrobe rail. We got a refurbished wardrobe for our bedroom last month. However, the wardrobe rail wasn’t fit to perfection and we were facing issues with hanging clothes. I then called up my carpenter and got the rail installed. I closely followed what he was doing, so I can help you with the method.  I am sharing the detailed steps for the same below.

How to Install a Wardrobe Rail?

Here is the method you can use:

  1. For a top-height rail, start by measuring 250mm from the back of the wardrobe panel and 50mm down from the top edge of the wardrobe panel.

  2. Next, screw the rail end bracket into the wall. Use short screws to fix the bracket to the wardrobe.

  3. Install the opposing hanging rail with a measuring tape and level to make sure that the height remains the same.

  4. With longer screws, fix the bracket into the wall. Install wall plugs where needed for a stronger installation.

  5. Measure the length between the installed rail brackets. This will give you the rail length.

  6. Mark the measured length on the rail and cut it using a hacksaw. Once cut, you can slot the rail into the rail brackets.

This is how to put up a wardrobe rail. I hope this helps.

A year ago, my wardrobe rail and brackets snapped out suddenly, causing all of my items to fall out. I therefore looked out DIY steps on how to fix a wardrobe rail. I discovered in a YouTube video, it can be easily fixed by replacing new rails using screwdrivers, nails, screws, and so on.

How to Fix a Broken Wardrobe Rail?

I came across the below steps and followed the same to fix my broken wardrobe rail:

  • I first took out my clothes and other belongings from the rail.

  • After that, I carefully removed the old rail and brackets and disposed of it.

  • I then used a matchstick to fill the hole with wood glue and fix the new bracket.

  • Finally, I screwed the new rail into the brackets to install it. Afterward, I took the time to arrange and hang my clothes and other belongings in a tidy manner.

I followed these instructions to install my wardrobe rail, however it pulled out again a month later. I thus hired a carpenter, and he fixed my wardrobe rail very well. It has been almost a year and my wardrobe rail is still in good condition. I hope you get an idea of how to install wardrobe rail.

How to do a Wardrobe Makeover?

Yesterday, my partner and I rearranged the accessories in our cupboard. Although the results exceeded our expectations, our wardrobe rail fell a while after. With each thing we hung on it, it bowed even more. So we figured out how to fix a wardrobe rail and started working on it again.

Guide to fixing wardrobe hanging rail:

  • You should measure the diameter of your current wardrobe rail and the distance it hangs from the wall.

  • Measuring how long the present brackets are is the simplest approach to accomplish the process.

  • You can use a stud finder to identify a stud relative to the centre of the wardrobe rail or two studs equally spaced from the centre.

  • You can just tap the wall instead of using a stud finder.

  • When you knock down a stud, the drywall will make a hollow sound between the studs and a stronger sound as you do so.

  • You need to take off every item of clothing from the adjustable clothes rail for wardrobe.

  • Determine the position of the mounting holes on the walls with a pencil while holding the new brackets over the studs and holding the pole so it stays in place.

  • You need to drill the holes for the necessary hardware that arrived with your new wardrobe bracket or brackets. After removing the pole, screw the new brackets into place.

  • You need to reposition the wardrobe rail by dropping it. In order to minimise or at least reduce sagging, the new brackets will aid in supporting it along its height. This process also works with how to fit a wardrobe rail.

Guide to prevent wardrobe rail from hanging:

  • You can arrange them on the floor of the wardrobe or place them in a container instead of keeping shoes in a container hung from the wardrobe rail.

  • You can keep out-of-season clothing, especially bulky jackets, beneath the bed or on the racks rather than hanging from the wardrobe rail.

  • You can go through your wardrobe and give any items you no longer need to relatives or a charitable organisation to relieve some of the pressure on the wardrobe rail.

This is all I had to say about how to fix a wardrobe rail.
