I noticed that the cupboard’s drawers in my room were stuck. So, I first tried to find out the reason this was happening. I have a bit of an idea about stuck drawers as my father had an old cupboard and he used to teach me stuff to fix it. So, I could tell you how to fix drawer slides. I will share all the reasons and solutions below.

How to Repair a Drawer Slide?

Here are the reasons and their solutions related to stuck drawer slides:

  1. Reason: Dust, dirt and debris have accumulated on the tracks.

  2. Solution: Use a clean cloth or vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt and debris from the tracks. Wipe the tracks well and then try sliding the drawers.

  3. Reason: Loose screws in the drawer have led to the inability of the drawer to be in place.

  4. Solution: Screw the loose screws and the drawer slides back into place using a screwdriver.

  5. Reason: There is extra friction in the components of the drawer slides.

  6. Solution: You can spray silicone, graphite, or dry lubricant on slide parts.

How to Open Jammed Drawer Lock?

Hi there. I know how to fix drawer slides and can share the process with you. I have sliding drawers in my bedroom and got it fixed a while ago. Let me help you with the process.

How to Repair a Slide?

Here is the method to fix your drawer slide.

  1. The first thing is to get to the root of the problem. See what is obstructing the smooth flow of the drawer.

  2. For this, remove the drawer by pulling it out carefully as far as it can. After you do so, lift the drawer gently at an angle of 45 degrees. This should get rid of anything that is obstructing the drawer.

  3. If the problem still exists, you must pull up the drawer’s back side to loosen it before pulling it out.

  4. You may need to manipulate the slides to set the drawer free.

How to Fix Drawer Slides With Ball Bearings?

Here is the process for fixing drawer slides with ball bearings.

  1. Remove the drawer from the desk and see the bottom of the runner. If you find any obstructions or debris, get rid of them and then see if it works.

  2. If the drawer is stuck, lubricate the rails using dry graphite powder.

  3. If there is still stiffness in opening the drawer, see if there are any bent or broken slides on either end of the runner.

  4. In case the slides are bent, replace and line them up properly with one another.

  5. You may have to replace the drawer runners if the drawers still don’t open properly.
