I needed to know how to fix exhaust fan in my bathroom since there was a lot of mould and mildew growth there. Fixing an exhaust fan will keep away the excess moisture and make the bathroom more clean. I looked up online regarding the type of exhaust fans and came to the conclusion that it would be better to purchase a brushless direct current or (BLDC) exhaust fan. This will also help bring down my electricity bill.
Exhaust Fan How to Fix?
Be sure of fan size and location: The exhaust fan will have a certain size depending on the area of the bathroom. I measured my bathroom size and found a proper sized fan accordingly.
Cutting a Hole:
Put the roof nails in the drywall to get the location.
Take a pencil and outline the nail's location.
Then use a drilling hole and saw to cut it.
Attaching the fan: I screwed the joist with the fan. Then used the 4 inch 90 degree duct elbow and joined it to the side outlet port. Then I attached the fan to the port. I took the cable connector and put it in the knockout hole on the fans housing side. Four metal brackets were placed into the side tabs of the vent fan. The vent fan should be placed between the joists centering on the ceiling hole.
Attaching brackets to joists: Then I extended the brackets further so that they meet the joists. After that, I firmly placed them with drywall screws. I took the flexible duct and attached it to the fan. Then I inserted an electrical cable into the connector and tightened it with a connector screw.
Routing the fan: I was sure of the fans placement, then I attached the flexible ducting to the fan and vent. The last step was to make sure the fan is running properly.
These were the steps I followed on how to fix exhaust fan.

One appliance that I need to have in my kitchen is an exhaust fan. It not only keeps my kitchen atmosphere breathable but also helps get rid of unpleasant odours, grease, and smoke generated by several kitchen activities like grilling, cooking, or frying. A few common issues: MotorIf your exhaust fan’s motor suddenly starts making an unusual noise, it may be because the motor is struggling to keep the fan running. In this case, the motor can stop working at any point, so you are required to replace it.
If you have the instruction manual, keep this with yourself during the removal process as it will help you identify several components. First, turn off the power supply and remove the fan’s cover to access its wires. Now, unhook them carefully before you remove the other fasteners holding the motor to the support. Next, just reverse the steps with the new motor. I want you to make sure that the new part is produced by the same manufacturer as the fan. Don’t forget to read the manual to see whether it outlines any suggestions as to suppliers.
Power FailureIf the exhaust fan doesn’t work at all when you switch it on, there are some possible reasons. Check whether it has tripped the circuit breaker and put it back into place if it has. In case the fuse has blown, you have to replace it asap.
RattleYour exhaust fan is likely to have defective or loose components if it rattles when it’s turned on. In this case, you’ll have to rectify it. First, switch off the power supply and check the fasteners that hold the cover in place. If they’re correctly secured, unscrew them, remove the cover and check for any loose parts. Replace or repair any defective components and ensure the screws are tightened properly when you replace them.
