Hi, It is always a hassle with the flush tank overflow issue. Last month, I had the same issue and had to dry the washroom every other hour. I shared this with a friend of mine, who told me about some troubleshooting methods.

• Method 1: Adjusting The Float Rod or Cup

My friend suggested that I check the float rod or cup attached to the fill valve, which controls the water in the flush tank. If that gets misplaced or misadjusted, water will overflow. This problem can be easily solved by turning the screw slowly anticlockwise to check if the water flow stops. 

• Method 2: Replacing The Valve

When it comes to how to stop flush tank overflow, replacing the valve usually solves the issue. To replace the valve, you can just disconnect the old valve from the tank and install a new one. 

• Method 3: Leaks

The final method mentioned by him about how to stop overflowing toilet tank, is to check for leaks. There are times when leaks appear on the flush tanks. He told me to check for leaks around the flapper, fill valve, or tank connections. If I find one, I should just replace the tank.

You must adjust the float rod or float cup to lower the water level within the toilet tank. You must find the screw holding the float rod or float cup to the fill valve. Turn this screw slightly anticlockwise to lower the water level using a screwdriver, a set of channel locks, or pliers. Make adjustments until water is stopped from entering the overflow tube.

If the water keeps flowing no matter where the float cup or rod is located, the fill valve is probably the problem.

• Verify the Overflow Tube Height:

The purpose of an overflow tube is to keep the toilet tank from overflowing; but, if it is too short, water will keep running into the tank and out of the overflow tube. The flush valve must be changed in order to resolve this problem. To stop water from draining continually, just make sure the new flush valve is suitable for your toilet and that the overflow tube is taller than the previous overflow tube.

• Check the Chain:

One of the first components to check should be the chain and flapper because a constantly running toilet is often caused by a problem with the flush valve assembly. The flapper won't be able to close completely if the chain is too short, but if it is too long, it could become tangled and leak as a result. Make sure the chain is of an ideal length so that the flapper can fully close and open without requiring a lot of extra chains.

• Inspect the Flapper:

The flapper will then be examined. Over time, these rubber components may get distorted, worn out, or otherwise filthy and may not fit properly inside the flush valve seat. The flapper should be replaced if any flaws are discovered, but if it seems to be unclean, washing it in a solution of water and vinegar can fix the issue.

• Replace the Flush Valve:

The entire flush valve should be changed if the water from the tank keeps leaking into the toilet bowl or you discover that the overflow tube is too short.

• Verify the Fill Valve is Faulty:

Remove the top of the toilet tank and measure the overflow tube's height and the set water level to determine whether the fill valve is the source of the problem. The fill valve is the source of the issue if the overflow tube is of the proper height for the toilet and the water level is set to around an inch below the top of the overflow tube.

• Replace the Fill Valve:

The fill valve can be replaced more easily than the flush valve, but you will still need a set of channel locks and a cloth, towel, or sponge. The fill valve will start filling the toilet tank with water right away if the replacement was successful, and it will stop when the float arm or float cup reaches the desired level. To prevent water damage, look for leaks at the toilet tank's base.
