Tips For How to Fix Swollen Wood Door?
Dealing with a swollen wood door can be a common issue, especially in varying weather conditions. To address this, consider the following steps: 1. Identify the Cause: Determine the reason behind the swelling. It could be due to excess moisture, changes in humidity, or a damaged finish. 2. Remove Excess Moisture: If the swelling is caused by moisture, reduce humidity in the area. Use a dehumidifier or increase ventilation to help the wood contract. 3. Sand the Swollen Area: Once the door is dry, gently sand the swollen part to remove excess wood. Use a fine-grit sandpaper to avoid causing further damage. 4. Repair or Replace Finish: If the swelling is due to a damaged finish, repair or replace it. Ensure the door is properly sealed to prevent future swelling. 5. Adjust Hinges: If the door is sticking, check and adjust the hinges. Tighten or reposition them to ensure proper alignment.Shifting, House?

Natural materials like wood expand when they take up moisture and absorb heat or humidity from the surrounding air. My bulging living room door was giving me migraines last year. Since opening and closing this door took additional physical effort. I can tell you a few strategies on how to fix swollen wood door, that I used to repair my bulging living room door.
How to Fix Swollen Wooden Door?
-
Using lubricant:
Door swelling can be greatly reduced with the use of lubricants. To prevent sticking, I used a dry soap bar, paraffin wax, petroleum jelly, or home lubricant spray on the top and sides of the door. A temporary fix would be to lubricate the door's top and edges.
-
Use a dehumidifier:
I started using a dehumidifier to lessen the moisture that the door was regularly absorbing from the home and the surrounding air. By keeping it from absorbing moisture, a dehumidifier would stop the door from swelling.
When I'm using this device, I make sure to shut my house's windows and doors. Swelling often occurs, when wood is exposed to humid air.
-
Use a heat gun:
I haven’t tried this out. However, I am aware that to remove the moisture, you can use a heat gun or a hair dryer. The air or moisture trapped inside the door escapes back into the atmosphere as soon as you place the heat gun on the swollen section of wood. To prevent the wood from burning or being harmed, you can hold the drying tool 30 cm away from the door.
I hope these tips will help you with how to prevent wooden doors from swelling.
