Hello, Somanth. Just like you, I was curious about how do you french polish furniture. I therefore got in touch with my buddy who french polished his furniture by himself. When I asked him what the stages were, he told me that I could accomplish it quickly using the denatured alcohol and shellac flakes solution. I have shared the detailed steps below for your reference.

How to French Polish Antique Furniture?

Based on his suggestions, I finished my wood furniture by following the techniques listed below:

  • Using my old credit card, I first cleared away loose debris, food, and paint splatters.

  • I then used a cloth soaked in water and a small amount of detergent to clean the surface.

  • I gave it time to dry.

  • I then combined the denatured alcohol and shellac flakes to make a shellac polish solution.

  • After that, I put on the polish. To do that, I put a little piece of cotton padding in the shellac solution, wound it around a rubber, and began rubbing it in a circular manner across the surface of my furniture.

  • Finally, I let my furniture air dry fully before polishing it with a new soft cloth to restore its luster.

I followed the above steps multiple times to get a desired level of shiny, smooth surface of my old furniture. I hope this helps you get an idea of how to french polish furniture.
