How to Generate IPIN for NPS Account ?

It is important for subscribers to conduct NPS iPIN generation for security reasons. The iPIN assigned to each person is unique. This means that my iPin (Internet Personal Identification Number) will be different from yours. When an NPS account is opened, we are given a unique PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number).

You can generate iPIN for NPS on the NSDL website. From what I know you can use the mobile app or our designated NPS account to do so. You can also reset your iPIN in the same way. Since the iPin is confidential, it shouldn't be made public by any means. 

• Open the website for NSDL 

• Click on Set/Reset IPin.

• You will see that the page opens directly to the portal where you can easily re-set your iPin. 

• You will have to mention PRAN, DOB, and Password amongst other details. 

• Re-enter the password. 

• Fill in the Captcha as displayed on the screen. 

• You will get an OTP (One-time password) on your registered mobile number. 

• Enter the OTP. 

• Hit enter 

iPin is needed to access the CRA system where you can check details, nomination details, and bank account details of both Tier-1 and Tier-2 NPS accounts. This is all from my end on NPS iPIN generation.

IPIN generation for NPS 

1. The first thing that you need to do is visit the

   CRA NSDL website

   and log in using your credentials. As I already told you, your PRAN number would be your user ID and your IPIN would be your password.

2. Since you do not have your IPIN, you will have to click on the ‘Forgot Password’ link on the login page.

3. A new window will open up where you will have to choose the ‘Instant Reset I-PIN”’ option.

4. Now you will be required to enter details like your PRAN number and your date of birth.

5. After this you can enter the password of your choice which will be your IPIN.

If you are wondering, what is IPIN in NPS? I’d like to say that when a customer opens an NPS account, they are given a special PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number). Clients can monitor their allocated NPS account on the NPS portal or their NPS account on the NSDL website using the mobile app. Customers of NPS are also given a private IPIN as a security measure, which they can use to access their NPS account.

As soon as the customer enrols in the NPS, the IPIN will be emailed to his/her registered email ID.

I have gone through Shrishti’s answer about how to get IPIN for NPS, and I completely agree with the steps that she mentioned. I followed all the steps that she mentioned about how to set IPIN for NPS. Hence, I would like to share it with you all.

The PRAN will be assigned to the consumer once they have signed up for the NPS programme (Permanent Retirement Account Number). After receiving your PRAN, I visited the NSDL website. I selected Set/Reset IPin from the menu in the bottom right corner. I entered my information, including my PRAN, account name, password, and (DOB).

Keep in mind that all information entered should be the same as mentioned in the PRAN card. Next, I re-entered the password, and clicked on "create OTP". The OTP was sent to my mobile number. Finally, on the portal, I entered the OTP and clicked on "submit."

If an NPS subscriber forgets their password or if their account is locked, they can reset their password or IPIN. If the user enters the wrong password five times in a row, the NPS account will be locked to prevent unauthorised access. Even when the account is locked, customers must then reset their password by answering the secret questions. The user will need to file a request for issuance of IPIN if they are unable to recall the question's answer and are unable to reset the IPIN.
