A certificate of occupancy authorizes people to live inside the building. If a building doesn’t have an occupancy certificate, it means that the building may not have been constructed as per the sanctioned plan and may not comply with the mandatory regulations. This is why it is important to obtain an OC. Read below if you want to know how to get a certificate of occupancy for a home:

After constructing the building, the buyer or builder is required to fill and submit an occupancy certificate application form to the concerned local development or municipal authority. You are required to submit this form within 30 days of completing the construction. You must attach the documents given below along with the application form:

  • Copy of the sanctioned plan

  • Photographs of rainwater harvesting and solar panels

  • Photographs of the completed building

  • Tax assessment with tax paid receipt

  • Floor’s area calculation sheet (must have the signature of an architect)

  • NOC from fire force

  • Built plan along with section, site, and elevation plan

  • Commencement certificate

  • Completion certificate

After the submission, the concerned authorities will visit the building for inspection and will check whether the building is built according to the approved plan. After that, they will issue the occupancy certificate.
