When I noticed fingerprints all over my stainless steel appliances, I decided to tackle the issue. I had been cleaning them with just a cloth, but it never really worked, and the marks kept appearing. So, I called my mom to come over and show me how to properly clean stainless steel. After watching her work, I now know how to get fingerprints off stainless steel with a few simple methods.

How Do You Clean Fingerprints Off Stainless Steel?

My mom highlighted the importance of a few ingredients which she considers to be the best in cleaning fingerprints off stainless steel.

  1. Vinegar – She used a mixture of vinegar and water. Vinegar is great because it cuts through the oils left behind by fingerprints. Just mix one part vinegar with one part water in a spray bottle and wipe down the surface with a microfiber cloth.

  2. Club Soda – Another quick fix she showed me was using club soda. They sprayed it on a cloth and wiped it down, which worked wonders in removing the fingerprints without leaving streaks behind.

  3. Dish Soap and Water – For tougher stains, a mix of dish soap and warm water worked well. The cleaner scrubbed gently with a microfiber cloth, and it easily got rid of both fingerprints and any grease marks.

  4. Microfiber Cloth and Water – Sometimes, all you need is a damp microfiber cloth to clean the fingerprints off. My mom emphasised the importance of using only microfiber, as it traps dirt and oils rather than smearing them around.

  5. Olive Oil – Surprisingly, olive oil was also used to polish the surface. A small amount on a cloth helped remove any remaining fingerprints and gave the steel a shiny finish.

  6. Stainless Steel Cleaner – She also said that for a long-lasting effect, stainless steel cleaners can be used, especially if the fingerprints are persistent.

These simple tips will keep your stainless steel looking clean and smudge-free.
