Last year, we witnessed a number of crickets in our house and though they are not harmful, we became a bit worried about them. Our daughter was just a year old then so we decided to get rid of it. If you hire a pest control service, you need to vacate the house for one or two days, so I decided to find a solution for how to get rid of crickets inside house naturally. I learned multiple ways and they are really effective. You can follow them and get rid of crickets.

How to get rid of crickets inside house?

Here are some tips on how to get rid of crickets inside a house:

  • Sealing Entry Points:

Identify and seal any cracks, gaps, or openings in doors, windows, and walls to prevent crickets from entering in the first place.

  • Reduce Lighting:

Turn off outdoor lights or use yellow bug lights, as bright lights attract crickets.

  • Cedar Blocks or Shavings:

Place cedar blocks or shavings in areas where crickets are active. They dislike the scent of cedar.

  • Essential Oils:

Use essential oils like lavender, peppermint, or citronella to create a repellent spray, or soak cotton balls and place them in cricket-prone areas.

  • Vacuuming:

Regularly vacuum crickets to remove them from your home.

  • Dehumidify:

Crickets are attracted to moisture, so use a dehumidifier to reduce humidity levels.

I used peppermint oil and a dehumidifier and within a week we were able to get rid of cricket inside our house. It was really helpful.

I still remember how crickets used to annoy us when we moved to this new home of ours. Even though they seem to be quite harmless but when their population increases; you’ll find them overrunning your home. That’s what happened to us. They started damaging our paper products, clothes, furniture, and food. Worst of all, their high-pitched squeaking noise started ruining our sleep. Thankfully, our neighbours told us how to get rid of cricket insect.

How to Remove Cricket Insect: Simple Methods Molasses (Gudd)

Using molasses is one of the sweetest ways to get rid of crickets. Molasses is known to attract these noisy pests as they like their sweet smell. To hunt them, just add molasses and water to a shallow bowl and keep it in the most infected area. Their smell will attract crickets and soon they’ll find themselves submerged in the water.

Some of our neighbours use beer in place of molasses, so you can try it too.

Soap water

Soap water is a natural pesticide that you can use to get rid of these annoying creatures. Just fill a spray bottle with soap water and spray it on crickets as soon as you come across any. Soaps contain chemical components which will break down the outer layer of crickets and kill them ultimately. This is my favourite method on how to keep cricket spiders away.

Homemade Spray

You can also use some common kitchen spices to make a homemade insecticide to spray on crickets and plants. For this, you’ll need to mix different chili items, such as hot peppers, hot spices, and sauces. Put this mixture in a container and add water to it. Leave it for a night. The next day, strain it and collect the liquid in a bowl. After that, add a glass of water and some dishwashing liquid. Pour it into a spray bottle and spray it on your plants as well as directly on crickets.
