How to Get Rid of Stuff When Moving?

A few months ago, I was in the same situation. I intended to get rid of 80% of the stuff I had accumulated during ten years in my house, as we were moving. At that time I researched how to get rid of stuff when moving. I found that selling or donating, recycling, stopping purchasing new stuff and so on are some tips to get rid of unwanted items.

How to Get Rid of Stuff Before Moving?

As you know sentimentality is your worst enemy, so the first thing you should get rid of while relocating is sentimentality. I then dealt with everything I had accumulated over the years by using the below tips. 

• I first chose items that would not fit and were not useful in my new home after taking the layout and storage capacity into account. 

• After that, I started donating some of my items that were not required. For example: I donated my clothes to charity. I found this the best way to downsize your stuff and benefit others in need.

• However, I found that donating isn't always feasible because most sites only accept items in good condition. I sold a few items like my old fridge, TV and so on using Facebook Marketplace or OLX.

• Before discarding, I also thought about recycling items that couldn't be sold or donated.

• I would like to say that it’s best that you stop buying unnecessary stuff. It will not only help you to pack easily during your move but also save your money.

By following these tips, I removed all the unnecessary stuff from my house. I hope this helps you get an idea of how to get rid of stuff when you move.
