I live in an old house. By old, I mean the design, structure and even the material usage. This is because I have plaster walls at my place instead of dry walls that are used in today’s construction process. With this, I know the difficulty of hanging pictures on my walls. So, I would be the ideal person to tell you how to hang photos on plaster walls.

Plaster walls have some cons that make it difficult to hang pictures on them. One of the main reasons is the crumbling and cracking of the wall whenever it's hammered. This leads to damage and unnecessary work. Thus, it becomes important to know a few measures by which you can hang pictures. 

How to hang pictures on plaster 

  1. First up, you can go with the method of using a velcro strip or an adhesive hook. This would be ideal for pictures that weigh less than 2 kg. 

  2. In the case of pictures with a weight of 4.5 kg or more, you can apply a screw anchor to the wall. If you wish to hang pictures with way more weight, go for plaster hooks. It has been a good method for me to hang pictures. When we got our family portrait, it weighed close to 10 kg. I opted for plaster hooks and the frame has since been hanging firmly against the wall. This is one of the best way to hang things on plaster walls.

  3. As a precautionary step, painter’s tape can be handy. When you’re about to drill a hole, first cover the hole with the tape. This will help you in eliminating any chances of crack development.
